Advanced Bat Techniques Course

Date: Wednesday 7th August 2019 - Friday 9th August 2019

Host: Cardiff
Location: St Fagans TBC, Cardiff

Course Details:
Created in 2014 we're pleased to continue our course aimed at providing training in Advanced Bat Survey Techniques for professional consultants and those seeking additional experience for project licence applications. As with all of our courses, this is an extremely flexible course built around a core programme, and will be tailored to the needs of the participants. The course will include training and experience towards Class level 2, 3 and 4 licences in England (and equivalent licences in other countries), bat handling, capture techniques (including hand nets, mist nets and harp traps), use of acoustic lures, demonstration of radio tags & radio tracking, advanced bat identification skills, and endoscope use amongst other techniques in what will be a very practical event. This course is a must for all bat ecologists looking to 'upskill' in response to increased survey demands. *** NOTE: changes to the licensing application process in England and Wales (from September 2018) indicate that additional logged experience in the use of endoscopes and hand nets will be needed. For handling and catching techniques (all methods) this experience will need to take place over at least two survey seasons. *** Course tutors: Sandie Sowler and Richard Crompton Unlike many other ecology training courses, every course we deliver is adapted to suit the participants objectives; after all no two ecologists are the same! For this reason it is essential that participants arrive in good time for the introductory session as this is when we establish what each participant hopes to achieve on the course. Please allow plenty of time for you journey! This is why we keep participant numbers low. If you want to find out about our courses, just ask around – with hundreds of trainees on past courses (including over 200 on our flagship course the Bat Licence Training Course) you won’t have to search far to find an ecologist that has been on a Bat Training Partnership course!
